If you’re researching coatings for high wear environments then you’ll have come across a number of brand names for coating. All of which make the same promise of enhanced corrosion, wear and hardness. Quite often though…they are all actually offering the same thing!

We have noticed that a number of other companies will provide coatings that are HVOF applied like ours, use the same materials as ours, but rather than call them ‘Tungsten Carbide Coatings’ will call them ‘Haigh Coatings’ or similar. A few of the more popular are woka, metco, amdry.

One of the great benefits of the HVOF process is that it’s a very versatile process. You can create custom coatings depending on the material being used and its application. Combining several materials you can enhance your components with the desired attributes. As an example, one popular coating with valve customers combines Tungsten Carbide, Nickel and Chrome.

Although this customisation means that the coating makeup used on one components might be vastly different from another, these brand names do nothing but cause extra confusion for customers. They also make it harder for them to make a side by side comparison of different providers and different processes.

We have invested heavily in our HVOF offering. HVOF takes powdered material and blasts it at the components at speeds faster than a jumbo jet, this creates coatings with an extremely strong bond. Our coating is applied by a KUKA robotic arm to ensure repeatability and absolute control of the coating process. We also have a state of the art CO² Cooling system and onsite metallurgical laboratory for quality assurance.
